New movies are released into theaters every weekend. How do you decide which movie to watch? Some movies sound awesome (Ender’s Game), but then do not do too well commercially. Other movies star your celebrity crush (Emma Thompson in Beautiful Creatures), but then do not get much love critically. Still other movies are recommended by friends (but friends can be idiots). And if you are like 65%* of people, you are not even aware of which movies are being released, yet alone which movies you should pay your hard earned money on.

I’ll save you the hassle of researching every movie, by comparing the new releases for each weekend in this column. Then I’ll tell you which movie you should watch in the theaters.

For the weekend of January 10th, the new films in wide release are Devil’s Due, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, The Nut Job, and Ride Along.

And like a bowling turkey, Jack Ryan and Ride Along will split another point for best street cred.

So out of a maximum of 7 points per movie, Ride Along scores 2 and 3/4 points (and a gold star), Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit scores 2 and 1/4 points, The Nut Job scores 1 and 1/4 points, and Devil’s Due scores 3/4 point.

You may interpret this column for your own movie preferences. For example, if you wanted Captain Kirk and Elizabeth Swann to be in a movie together, feel free to watch Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. However, if you are still on the fence, please read the following conclusions from the scientific data gathered in this column.

Conclusion 1: On paper, Ride Along is the best movie to watch this weekend (but Jack Ryan may be the better film).
Conclusion 2: Each week I give a gold star to the movie with the best tagline. This week had four good taglines, but Ride Along’s perfect explanation wins, “Propose to this cop’s sister? Rookie mistake.” Interestingly, the other three taglines were three words each, “Fear is born,” “Trust No One,” and “Let’s Get Nuts.”
Conclusion 3: Elizabeth Swann is one of my favorite heroines of all-time. I’m not ready to rank them, but I may like her better than my other favorite: Katniss Everdeen.

*Statistic is completely made up.
