Shoot me if you want, but I will not apologize for hating Twilight.

The Loneliest Planet
Who: Gael Garcia Bernal
What: An indie drama about a couple who hire a guide to hike through the Caucasus Mountains. Things go wrong and become emotionally strained.
When: February 26th - DVD and streaming
Why: The movie's gotten good response from the film festival circuit, and I like to keep an eye on Bernal's movies..

The Master
Who: Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, director Paul Thomas Anderson
What: Phoenix plays an alcoholic WWII veteran trying to fit in after the war and is embraced by a philosophical leader, played by Hoffman. Adams plays Hoffman's wife.
When: February 26th - DVD and VUDU
Why: Some reviews I've read have described this drama as strange, unsettling, and unpleasant. But it earned Oscar nominations for all three actors, and a Writer's Guild nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson's screenplay.

The Package
Who: Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren
What: Austin plays a mob enforcer and courier who gets ambushed on his way to deliver a package to a mob boss played by Lundgren. Lots of bang bang and punch punch.
When: February 26th - DVD and Ultraviolet
Why: Steve Austin vs. Dolph Lundgren? Yeah, I'll watch that.

What I'm watching this week:

Based on a goal of watching 200 movies per year, I try to watch - or limit myself to - four movies per week. The obligatory choice here is The Master to check off one of my Oscar to-see titles. I'm expecting the acting to be good, but I'm not expecting to enjoy it, if that makes sense. I'm a fan of Rebecca Hall, so I'll rent her supernatural chiller The Awakening. Then I'll want to ease the tension with the action humor of The Liability and The Package.

Coming next week:

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2, A Dark Truth, A Late Quartet, California Solo, Lay the Favorite, Playing for Keeps, Stand Off, The Bay, The Playroom, Unconditional, Wreck-It Ralph
