New movies are released into theaters every weekend. How do you decide which movie to watch? Some people could pick a movie based on the title (Surprisingly, Miracle on 34th Street, Step Up 2 The Streets, and Wall Street all have different genres). Some people watch trailers (misleading), some people listen to their friends (friends can be idiots), and some people only go to the movies if their Hollywood crush is on the screen (three weeks until I can see Catherine Zeta-Jones on screen again!).

More likely than not, each weekend there is a movie that you have never heard of in the theaters. I'll save you the hassle of researching every movie, by comparing the new releases for each weekend in this column. Then, I'll tell you which movie to watch.

For the weekend of May 25th, the new movies in wide release are Chernobyl Diaries and Men in Black 3.

Chernobyl DiariesMen in Black 3WINNER
(1 point per category)
Clearest TitleRussian nuclear powerplant site? Horror movie? The third Men in Black movie? Yes, Men in Black 3 is definitely the clearer title this weekend. Point.
Best Genre
and Rating
Horror:
Rated R for violence, some bloody images, and pervasive language.
Sci-Fi Action:
Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence and brief suggestive content.
Two different genres, two different ratings. Love it. 1/2 point for each.
Cleverest Tagline
(out of 5 stars)
"Experience the fallout"

4/5 I like this tagline. Nuclear fallout. Plot fallout. Clever.
“They are back... in time”

4/5 Clever, because the actors are back, and they also go back in time.
I actually like both taglines too - 1/2 point for each movie.
Best Part of TrailerDidn’t do it for me. I didn’t get emotionally invested in the story. I didn’t care about this sequel, but the trailer made me interested in the plot. I take my trailers seriously. Point for Men in Black 3.
Coolest Lead ActorJesse McCartney. He was in a boy band, All My Children, and was the voice of Theodore in the Alvin Chipmunks movie. Will Smith from Independence Day, I Robot, and Bad Boys. You don’t get too much cooler than Will Smith. Point.
Best CastI don’t recognize the names of the other actors, but they have been in other movies.Tommy Lee Jones (Batman Forever), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Emma Thompson (Love Actually), and smaller roles by Bill Hader and Nicole Scherzinger. This is a close contest, but I think Men in Black 3 will win this round too.
Best Street Cred
For the Production
Director Bradley Parker is making his directorial debut after doing effects on Let Me In, xXx, and Fight Club.Director Barry Sonnenfeld has also directed the other two MIBs, Wild Wild West, and The Addams Family. I love the Addams Family. Point for Barry.

So out of a maximum of 7 points per movie, Men in Black 3 scores 6 points and Chernobyl Diaries scores 1 point.

You may interpret this column for your own movie preferences. For example, if the name Dream Street means anything to you, feel free to watch it Chernobyl Diaries. However, if you are still on the fence, please read the following conclusions from the scientific data gathered in this column.

Conclusion 1: On paper, Men in Black 3 is the best movie to watch this weekend.
Conclusion 2: Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin were both in No Country For Old Men together.
Conclusion 3: Three more weeks until Catherine Zeta-Jones graces the screen again.
