New movies are released into theaters every weekend. How do you decide which movie to watch? Some people could pick a movie based on the title (surprisingly, Lord of the Rings, Lord of the Flies, and Lords of Dogtown all have different genres). Some people watch trailers (misleading), some people listen to their friends (friends can be idiots), and some people only go to the movies if their Hollywood crush is on the screen (I have a crush on the city of Rio de Janeiro... four weeks until the movie "Rio" comes to theaters!!!!!).

More likely than not, each weekend there is a movie that you have never heard of in the theaters. I'll save you the hassle of researching every movie, by comparing the new releases for each weekend in this column. Then, I'll tell you which movie to watch.

For the weekend of March 18th, the movies in wide release are Limitless, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Paul.

Limitless The Lincoln Lawyer Paul WINNER
(1 point per category)
Clearest TitleThis is one of the most nondescript titles of all time- no clue what this movie is about. I never knew Honest Abe had a lawyer, but sounds intriguing. Just kidding about the Limitless title, this one is even more confusing- who is Paul? The Lincoln Lawyer has the name of our most famous president- point for a little clarity.
Best Genre
and Rating
Thriller

Rated PG-13 for thematic material involving a drug, violence including disturbing images, sexuality and language.
Drama

Rated R for some violence, sexual content, and language.
Comedy

Rated R for language including sexual references and some drug use.
Thriller almost always wins this round for me, because unlike the other two, a thriller can be bad but still entertaining.
Cleverest Tagline
(out of 5 stars)
What if a pill could make you rich and powerful?

At first this seems like an awful tagline, but then I start thinking of my answer, and now I'm hooked.

4/5 stars
n/a

Don't be that movie.

0/5
"Who's up for a close encounter?"

Not too shabby, because they are getting uncomfortably close with an alien.

3/5
What if a movie won the best tagline for this week? Point for Limitless.
Best Part of TrailerIt looks interesting. Definitely will get it on Redbox. Whoa! This drama has a hint of thriller in it, and all the acting looks great. A road trip comedy with an alien- looks funny and kindof sweet- I liked it. Lincoln Lawyer and Paul split the point for the best trailers.
Coolest Lead ActorBradley Cooper from The Hangover, A-Team, and Alias. Matthew McConaughey from every chick flick in the past ten years and A Time to Kill. Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Normally Bradley Cooper (favorite character of mine on Alias) would automatically win this round, but Matthew's in a lawyer movie and will steal this point.
Best CastRobert De Niro (Raging Bull) Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny), Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions), William H. Macy (Fargo), John Leguizamo (Romeo + Juliet), and country singer Trace Adkins. Seth Rogen (Green Hornet), Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Kristen Wiig (SNL), and Jane Lynch (Glee). Wowzer. I really like the dramatic cast of The Lincoln Lawyer and the comedic cast of Paul- movies will split the point again.
Best Street Cred
For the Production
Director Neil Burger has also directed The Illusionist. Writer John Romano has also written Intolerable Cruelty and episodes of every TV show known to man. Director Greg Mottola has also directed Adventureland and Superbad. I guess Superbad gives this comedy the most street cred- point for Paul.

So out of a maximum of 7 points per movie, The Lincoln Lawyer scores 3 points, Paul scores 2 points, and Limitless scores 2 points.

You may interpret this column for your own movie preferences. For example, if you'd watch a movie where E.T. moons people, please feel free to watch Paul this weekend. However, if you are still on the fence, please read the following conclusions from the scientific data gathered in this column.

Conclusion 1: On paper, The Lincoln Lawyer is the best movie to watch this weekend.
Conclusion 2: Turns out The Lincoln Lawyer has nothing to do with Abraham Lincoln, but a lawyer who has an office in the back of his Lincoln luxury car.
Conclusion 3: Seriously, Matthew McConaughey's ending speech in A Time to Kill is one of my favorite "moving" performances of all-time. He should never do a chick flick again.
