2011 Reader Awards: Best TV Show
March 2, 2011
Best Television Show is a place where we have rarely lined up with our readers in terms of favorites. Only once in seven attempts now has your program of choice also been ours. 2011 is no exception as we selected Modern Family while you have chosen a rising underdog in Parks and Recreation. In fact, your top two series this year are both NBC Thursday night sitcoms with Parks and Recreation beating Community by 12%. A couple of long standing favorites, Mad Men and Lost, join them in the top four with Modern Family finishing fifth. Note that your top five is absolutely identical to ours save for the inversion of number one with number five.
The only other shows we agree on in the top ten are Friday Night Lights and 30 Rock. You demonstrated a thirst for blood with your selection of Dexter, a great sense of humor with your choice of Futurama (“I hated Jim!”), and a love for nonsensical plotlines inexplicably set to music with your nomination of Glee. In the process, you missed out on the party atmosphere of Cougar Town, the meth-ed up Albuquerque madness of Breaking Bad and the gratuitous violence of Justified. Seriously, you people need to be watching Justified like right now. Buy the DVDs. Download the episodes. Whatever. By the time you get to Bulletville, you’ll be hooked.
