2011 Reader Awards: Best Album
March 2, 2011
Best Album was a tricky proposition for you folks this year, what with Coldplay not releasing a disc in 2010 and all. I’ll go ahead and pencil them in as the category winners for next year, assuming that they do release a CD in the Fall as planned. In their absence, a vacuum was created and the artist you haphazardly selected to fill the void was Kanye West. I stubbornly refuse to say anything along the lines of letting you finish. Simply know that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is that you stop voting for Coldplay.
As for some of your other selections, I literally heard about Janelle Monae for the first time two weeks ago and her hair scares the living daylights out of me. Was anyone really missing the Grace Jones look? To a larger point, you only lined up with BOP on a trio of musicians: Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem and Beach House. Where is the love for my close, personal friend, Cee Lo? The man shared the concierge floor of a hotel with my wife and I when we were on our honeymoon and he was kind enough to talk Atlanta Falcons football with me during the downtime between our passionate sexual encounters (the wife and I, not Cee Lo and I). You couldn’t throw him a few votes? This indignity will be remembered. I’m not going to type out the words, but you know which Cee Lo song I’m thinking with regards to you right now.
