Pete Kilmer has been in the comics retail industry for ten years as a member of Downtown Comics in Indianapolis. Downtown Comics is one of the Midwest's largest comic retailers with over four locations in Indianapolis. All opinions are his own, and they cannot be bought with free swag. Beer and a walk on role on Chuck to steal Sarah from Chuck and I'm bought.

Kind of a light week, but some R.I.P. tie-ins with Nightwing and Detective should sell quickly.

Kim's Picks

I'm a little surprised to see Pete say it's a light week, as I'm counting about 14 books on my "to buy" list. The Batman R.I.P. titles he mentions are on that list, but I haven't actually caught up on that series just yet. I'll focus on the ones that's I'm most anticipating.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #18

I don't want to spoil anything for people who aren't caught up on this series, but Buffy #17 was great, as a character from a different area of the Whedonverse has entered the fray. I hadn't been enjoying the series as much as I hoped I might, but the last issue definitely moved things in the right direction.

Secret Six #1

Gail Simone takes the lead on this one, which is important to know as she's been doing a marvelous job with her current run on Wonder Woman. This one's definitely worth a look.

Angel: After the Fall #12

The last issue left us on a pretty significant cliffhanger, so I've been pretty anxiously awaiting the next book to see what happens. Well, not Locke & Key anxious, but nonetheless, Angel: After the Fall is one of my favorite books going at the moment.

Eternals #4

Writers Charles & Daniel Knauf picked right up where Neil Gaiman left off with this mini-series, and it is an engaging read full of machinations and big ideas. I had never been completely sold on the characters - even when Gaiman was doing the writing - but now everything seems to be coming together impressively. If you're interested in characters who are essentially gods living amongst men, this is the book for you (though I do recommend picking up the trade paperback of Gaiman's mini-series to prepare yourself).

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #2

This has traditionally been my favorite comic book (yes, I am a girl, thank you for asking), and I'm hoping Terry Moore can follow through on the promise he gave with issue #1.

Fables #75

At last. It feels like forever since we last saw an issue. Bill Willingham's series set in the world of fables (aka fairy tale characters) is simply amazing from issue to issue. It has been a huge, ambitious undertaking and I am entirely impressed with where he takes characters such as Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, Little Boy Blue and Pinocchio as the story gets bigger and more complex. Even though the characters are from children's stories, this is a book for grown-ups.
