Prom Night

This week's horror release opens very well, as most analysts predicted it would, with $9.3 million Friday. Honestly, I don't know what makes one release work one week and flop badly the next anymore. Anyway, Prom Night is assured to break the $20 million mark, which is actually pretty big news. While it will plummet quickly from here, $24.1 million is a very impressive figure.

Street Kings

The ensemble cop drama does perhaps a notch or two better than expected, with $4.3 million on Friday. The most likely target this weekend for older moviegoers, that should help somewhat over the rest of the weekend, and I'm looking for $12.9 million in the Friday to Sunday period.

Smart People

Audiences have had their fill on quirky, thank you very much. Smart People only managed $1.3 million Friday. Here's yet another release that you'll completely forget about until it's released on DVD. Call it $3.7 million for the weekend.
