2008 Reader Awards: Best Actor

March 5, 2008

My fashion sense is 51% Buster Brown, 49% Howard Stern

The reader award for Best Actor was a two horse race, and one of those horses was Secretariat. By a 46% margin, Daniel Day-Lewis takes top honors, while Javy Bardem locks up second place by an even wider margin, with 62% more vote than the John Edwards of this election, Viggo Mortensen. So, taking into account compounding, that means Day-Lewis beat Mortensen by – let's see, carry the one ... truncate or round? Truncate or round!? – roughly 17,000%.

Readers' fifth place selection, Johnny Depp, was the highest ranked acting performance to miss the staff's ballot. Our third highest lead actor – Tommy Lee Jones – and second place supporting actor – Tom Wilkinson – finished outside of the readers' top 15.

We denote the actor with the highest rank from last year to make an appearance in the top 15 as the returning champion, and this year that designation goes to Matt Damon, who followed up his eighth place finish last year for The Departed with another eighth place finish this year for The Bourne Ultimatum.
