2008 Reader Awards: Best Movie
March 5, 2008
In as relatively close a contest as these awards have tended to see over the years, boxofficeprophets.com readers chose Oscar winner No Country For Old Men as their Best Movie of 2007. The Coens' bleak masterpiece bested runner up Juno by an 8% margin. Juno was a clear second, over 20% ahead of third place finisher There Will Be Blood, with Ratatouille nipping at Daniels Day-Lewis' left heel for fourth. The Bourne Ultimatum and Superbad are like little islands unto themselves in a vast sea of votes - call them Fifthplaceland and Sixthplaceville, respectively. By comparison, the movies finishing seventh through tenth are like one big statistical log jam – consider them all tied for seventh, if you like.
In comparison to the Calvins, readers liked There Will Be Blood a little better than the staff, which we replaced in our top five with Knocked Up. The staff's favorite movie that was ignored by readers was our sixth place choice, Michael Clayton. The readers' favorite movie that was ignored by the staff was your ninth place finisher, Atonement.
