Daily Box Office Analysis for August 14, 2007
By David Mumpower
August 15, 2007
Yesterday's box office analysis discussion centered around the performance of Rush Hour 3. The Chris Tucker/Jackie Chan buddy picture earned $5.2 million on Monday, and I indicated it was showing all of the classic signs of heavy front-loading. Tuesday's performance did little to change this evaluation. The New Line title brought in another $4.47 million, giving the $140 million production a running total of $58.77 million. The 14.0% drop from Monday-to-Tuesday is not the end of the world by any stretch, but it does little to reassure. It desperately needs a couple of weekdays where it holds up rather than continues its (relative) free-fall.
The other big budget opener from last weekend, Stardust, continued in fourth place yesterday with $1,227,772, a marginal decline of 0.6% from Monday's $1,235,115. The running total of $10,404,894 still ain't pretty, though. Meanwhile, Daddy Day Camp is entrenched in last place with another $546,184, an increase (shocking, I know) of 16.2% from Monday's $469,994. Clearly, word-of-mouth is carrying it!
Box office for the top ten fell 4.6% from $15,977,075 to $15,234,255. Yes, this is going to be a dreary batch of weekdays for box office discussion. I'll try to come up with a fun topic for tomorrow and Friday to counter this.
