Molen Options Playing with the Enemy
Produced Gerald R. Molen (Schindler's List) has optioned Gary W. Moore's nonfiction book Playing With the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams. The sports drama is based on Moore's father's experiences during World War II. Gene Moore was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1940 at the young age of 15, but then joined the Navy. There he was sent on a mission to guard German POWs, during which time he taught the enemy soliders how to play baseball. David Ranes and Toby Moore (the author's son) wrote the screenplay, and Toby is also set to take the lead role as his grandfather.
