Paramount arm options City of Water
Former Paramount president John Goldwyn, who still has an exclusive deal with the studio, has optioned the rights to a New Yorker Magazine story from David Grann. City of Water centers around the massive system of underground tunnels that deliver water to New York City. The story was published in September 2003 and revolves around the construction of NYC's $6 billion Third Water Tunnel, a 60-mile project that was started in 1970 and has a completion date of 2020.
According to Variety, the film is slated to be a "high-stakes drama set in an unknown, idiosyncratic world far beneath New York." The screenplay will involve a father/son story set before the backdrop of the underground tunnels.
