Howard is the Pride of Paramount

Paramount Pictures is developing a biopic of famed country singer Charley Pride. Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow; Crash) will star and his Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer will helm. Pride was born to sharecroppers in Mississippi and dreamed of playing professional baseball. He played for a time in the Negro Leagues, before joining the Army. Eventually he ended up in Nashville, where he became a sensation; spawining 51 country top 10 hits between 1966 and 1984. Pride often struggled with the fact that black America did not celebrate his accomplishments, and that many of his fans were white and racist. The movie will highlight his relationship with wife Rozene, who helped on the financial side of his career. As with Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line, Howard plans to sing the movie's songs and play guitar.
