Miramax gets Tsotsi

Miramax has acquired the distribution rights to the movie festival darling Tsotsi. The South African film, which is that country's official submission for the foreign language Oscar this year, was written and directed by Gavin Hood and is based on the novel by Athol Fugard. Tsotsi means gangster or thug in the street language that exists in the towns of South Africa. The movie centers on one such young man who steals a BMW only to discover that there is a baby in the back seat. He then forces a mother to care for the child at gunpoint.
