Coppola returns to director's chair
After an eight year hiatus, Francis Ford Coppola is returning to the director's chair. He'll be helming Youth Without Youth, a movie based on the novella by Romanian author/intellectual Mircea Eliade. Coppola also wrote the screenplay and will produce through his own American Zoetrope banner. Tim Roth, Alexandra Maria Lara, Bruno Ganz and Marcel Iures will star in the film. The story looks at a professor who goes through major life changes after a cataclysmic event during the years before WWII. He becomes a fugitive, pursued through such exotic locales as Romania, Switzerland, Malta and India.
The Godfather director had not helmed a film since 1997's The Rainmaker and had been growing aggravated because the only offers he was receiving from studios were gangster pics.
