Guest and Co. to do send-up on awards season

Christopher Guest (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) is set to create a movie about the shooting of a bad film, and also will poke fun at movie awards season at the same time. The movie will be titled For Your Consideration, and Warner Independent Pictures is looking to release the film in Fall 2006. All of the regulars who generally frequent Guest films - Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Harry Shearer, Eugene Levy, Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge, Michael McKean and Fred Willard - will be onboard, as well as The Office's Ricky Gervais. The movie won't be precisely a mockumentary like Guest's past work, but will instead be a mostly improvised movie-within-a-movie. The film will center on three actors who are shooting a small indie flick who find their lives turned topsy-turvy when buzz starts generating about their potentially award-worthy performances. The film will not be about the Oscars themselves, but will end just before the nominations are announced. Guest is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Levy. The movie-within-the-movie is titled Home for Purim and is a melodrama that takes place in the South of the mid-1940s. Gervais will play the head of a specialty production unit within a studio. Guest is set to star as a director who has shot 18 sitcom pilots - though none of them have made it as series. Levy will play an agent, and the three actors will be portrayed by O'Hara, Posey and Shearer. The movie looks at the indie film biz in particular.
