Universal examines 9/11

Universal will be the second studio to produce a movie about the terrorist events of 9/11, with director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy) set to helm. Flight 93 will be budgeted at $15 million and 90 minutes long as it is told in real-time. The story will start with the takeoff and hijacking of United Airlines Flight 93, then progress through the passengers learning on their cell phones that other hijacked planes had been steered into the World Trade Center. From that point, they come to realize that their plane is being steered toward Washington, D.C. The film will have its finale in the passengers' decision to sacrifice their own lives to bring the plane down. It crashed in Pennsylvania. Greengrass plans to partly improvise the film with an ensemble cast, and will use handheld cameras to give the movie a gritty, realistic feel. Including Flight 93, three 9/11 projects are in the works. Oliver Stone is in production on one for Paramount, and there is also an upcoming ABC miniseries.
