Merkerson is a Snake
S. Epatha Merkerson, who recently won an Emmy for her performance in Lackwanna Blues, will join the cast of Black Snake Moan for Paramount Classics. She'll star alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci and Justin Timberlake. Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) is directing the film about a small-town girl and her friendship with a bluesman.

Jackson and Ricci see Snakes
Writer/director Craig Brewer is set to join forces again with producers John Singleton and Stephanie Allain as they work together on Black Snake Moan. Previously, the trio had worked together on the buzz-creating Hustle & Flow, a movie that has been a tremendous critical hit and is set to open in theaters later this summer.
Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci would star in the film, and Justin Timberlake is also in discussions. The gritty drama will be distributed by Paramount Classics, who is also handling Hustle & Flow. Jackson is set to portray Lazarus Woods, a god-fearing jazz musician. He's a father figure to a sex-addicted woman (Ricci). Timberlake is being considered to play Ricci's boyfriend.
