Picturehouse gets Mongol
Picturehouse Films, the new distribution venture from HBO and New Line Cinema, has picked up North American rights to the upcoming historical epic Mongol. The $20 million Mongolian-language film is being directed by Russian helmer Sergi Bodrov. Mongol is the first movie in a planned trilogy about the life of Genghis Khan. This film will center on his orphan mythology and his early steps toward becoming the legendary Conqueror. The film has apparently already been the source of some controversy due to historical liberties that may be taken.
