Untitled Outkast Musical
Universal is Outkast
Universal has acquired distribution rights to the untitled period musical that stars Outkast band members Andre Benjamin and Antwan Patton. Bryan Barber is directing from his own screenplay. The movie is set in a speakeasy in a prohibition-era South, and stars Ving Rhames, Terrence Howard, Faizon Love, Malinda Williams, Paula Jai Parker, Jackie Long, Patti LaBelle, Cicely Tyson, Ben Vereen, Macy Gray and newcomer Paula Patton. Hinton Battle did the choreography.
Benjamin has the role of the house piano player, and Patton is the lead performer and speakeasy manager who is attempting to keep gangsters from wresting away control of the club.

Andre 3000 gears up for musical movie
Double Feature Films is developing a musical that will star Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000 of Outkast. The heads of the production company realized that Benjamin had leading man potential after seeing him in Be Cool earlier this year. The screenplay will be handled by Jeff Whitty, the Tony-winning writer of the puppet musical Avenue Q. The movie will center on a man with magical powers who comes into the lives of a family.
