Maguire is Good

Tobey Maguire has signed to star alongside George Clooney and Cate Blanchett in Warner Bros.' The Good German. The adaptation of the Joseph Kanon novel is being adapted by Paul Attanasio and will be directed by Steven Soderbergh. The movie centers on an American journalist (Clooney) who finds himself involved in a murder mystery that takes place in the days after WWII. He's also in search of his mistress (Cate Blanchett), whom he met while in the country to cover the military action in Berlin. Maguire will play a soldier who agrees to drive the writer around town, but actually may have motives of his own.

Clooney and Blanchett are Good

George Clooney and Cate Blanchett are in talks to star in The Good German, which will be directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Clooney and Soderbergh's Section Eight Prods. The thriller centers on an American journalist who is sent to cover the Allied summit that will allocate control of Germany in the days following WWII. However, the real reason that he has gone there is to search for a lost lover, but when the body of an American soldier is washed up in the Russian zone, he also becomes involved in a murder mystery.

Soderbergh to direct The Good German

Steven Soderbergh will direct the romantic thriller The Good German for Warner Bros. and his own Section Eight production company. Based on a book by Joseph Kanon, the story centers on an American journalist who is drawn into a murder mystery when he returns to post-WWII Berlin to search for his wartime mistress. Paul Attanasio adapted the script.
