Larson goes for a Hoot

Brie Larson has joined the cast of the Walden Media/New Line Cinema adaptation of the Carl Hiaasen young adult novel Hoot. The movie is being directed by Wil Shriner from his own screenplay. Larson will play the friend of a young Montana boy who moves to Florida, where he uncovers a plot to destroy a local population of endangered owls.

Wilson gives a Hoot

Luke Wilson will star in the Walden Media/New Line Cinema family film, Hoot. Based on a bestselling kids' book by Carl Hiassen, the story centers on a Montana boy (Logan Lerman) who moves to Florida and discovers that the local population of endangered owls has become threatened. Wilson will play a bumbling cop in the film. Wil Shriner is directing from his own screenplay. Hiassen pal Jimmy Buffett is producing and handling original music for the film. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Lerman to star in Hoot

Logan Lerman, who played Bobby on the recently canceled WB show Jack and Bobby, has signed for the lead role in the adaptation of the Carl Hiassen children's book Hoot. Frank Marshall and Jimmy Buffett are producing the film, and Buffett will be handling the soundtrack as well. Will Shriner is directing from a screenplay he adapted with Rob Lieber. The movie centers on a Montana boy who moves to Florida, where he uncovers a plot to destroy a population of endangered owls. He joins a group of eccentric locals to try to save the birds.

New Line gives a Hoot

New Line and Walden Media will team up to produce a feature film based on Carl Hiassen's award-winning children's book Hoot. Wil Shriner (Everybody Loves Raymond) is set to direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rob Lieber. Jimmy Buffett, a good friend of Hiassen's, is an executive producer and will write the music for the film. The story centers around a Florida boy who goes through various mysteries as he tries to save a group of endangered owls.
