Miramax is Listening

Miramax acquired Patrick Stettner's mystery/thriller The Night Listener at the Sunday Film Festival. It's the studio's biggest acquisition since the Weinsteins departed the studio, as they spent $3 million for North American rights to the film. The movie stars Robin Williams in an Armistead Maupin story about a popular radio host who develops a strange relationship with a young listener and his social worker.

IFC Films goes into the Night

IFC Films has agreed to co-finance and distribute The Night Listener for director Patrick Stettner. Robin Williams and Toni Collette star in the Armistead Maupin-penned flick. It's based on Maupin's bestselling novel and centers on a radio host and the unexpected events that take place when he strikes a friendship with his biggest fan, a small boy. Bobby Cannavale, Sandra Oh, Joe Morton and Rory Culkin co-star.

Cannavale is an excellent Listener

Bobby Cannavale has joined the cast of The Night Listener, a feature film adaptation of the novel by Armistead Maupin. He'll play the estranged lover of Robin Williams and joins a cast that also includes Toni Collette, Sandra OhSandra Oh, Rory Culkin and Joe Morton. Patrick Stettner is directing. The story centers on a talk radio host whose relationship is splintering, and in the process, he strikes up a telephone relationship with his biggest fan. Maupin adapted his novel along with Stettner and Terry Anderson.

Williams and Collette set for The Night Listener

Robin Williams and Toni Collette have signed to star in The Night Listener, an adaptation of a novel by Armistead Maupin (he did the screenplay himself). The movie will be directed by Patrick Stettner (The Business of Strangers) and centers on a popular radio host who is in the midst of a romance that is falling apart. As a result, he develops a telephone relationship with his biggest fan. His life becomes chaotic when questions concerning the boy's identity come up. Also in negotiations to join the cast are Sandra Oh, Rory Culkin and Joe Morton.
