Jones scores
Quincy Jones has signed to compose the original score for Paramount's Get Rich or Die Tryin'. It will be his first film score in two decades, when he did the soundtrack for The Color Purple. Jones has been nominated for seven Oscars and will be working along with composers Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer, director Jim Sheridan, and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, who stars and is writing some songs for the film. The movie itself tells the story of an orphaned street kid who rises up through the drug trade, but leaves that violence behind for a career in rap.

Davis joins 50 Cent Project
Paramount has signed Tony winner Viola Davis to star in the Untitled 50 Cent Project, to be directed by Jim Sheridan from a screenplay by Terrence Winter. She will play the grandmother of a gangster turned musician.

Paramount hires Joy Bryant for 50 Cent's film
Paramount Pictures and MTV films have signed Joy Bryant to star alongside 50 Cent in an untitled action-adventure film (formerly known as Locked and Loaded). Jim Sheridan (In America) will direct the film from a screenplay by Terence Winter. The movie will center on a drug dealer who moves away from a life of crime to instead pursue a career in rap music.

Sheridan is Locked and Loaded
Academy Award nominee Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In America) has signed with Paramount/MTV to direct the action-adventure Locked and Loaded, starring 50 Cent. The screenplay will be written by The Sopranos' Terence Winter. The tone of the film should be similar to GoodFellas, centering on the story of an inner city drug dealer who leaves a life of crime to pursue his passion - rap music.
