Strathairn to Spiderwick

David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck.) has signed on for a starring role in The Spiderwick Chronicles. The Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures film is about three children who move to their great uncle's old mansion and discover a magical book that introduces them to a startling new world. Mark Waters (Mean Girls) directs.

Highmore, Bolger Cast in Spiderwick

Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and Sarah Bolger (In America) have been cast as the three children in the fantasy film The Spiderwick Chronicles, from the bestselling children's book series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi. In the story, the three Grace children move to an ancicent mansion, where they discover an enchanted creature named Brownie who introduces them to a magical world filled with goblins, fairies and sprites. Highmore will actually be playing twins. Mark Waters (Mean Girls) will direct the movie, from John Sayles' (Lone Star) screenplay. Writer Brent Forrester had previously been hired to write the adaptation.

Forrester to write The Spiderwick Chronicles

Brent Forrester has been hired to write The Spiderwick Chronicles for Nickelodeon Movies. Mark S. Waters (Mean Girls) is already attached to direct. The Spiderwick story is based on a best-selling children's book series that chronicles the adventures of the Grace children, who move into a run-down old estate with their mother. The 13-year-old girl and her 9-year-old twin brothers find themselves involved in a world full of magical creatures such as goblins, griffins, fairies and trolls. The five-part book series is written by Holly Black and illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi.
