Keener to join Capote pic

Catherine Keener is in negotiations to play novelist Harper Lee in the upcoming biopic of Truman Capote, one of two that is currently in development. This particular film is being handled by United Artists, with Philip Seymour Hoffman set to play Capote. Chris Cooper and Clifton Collins are also onboard to star.

Collins onboard Capote biopic

Despite the fact that another studio has a competing project, United Artists is going forward with its biopic of author Truman Capote, signing Clifton Collins to play one of the two murderers whose story Capote chronicled in In Cold Blood. Collins will play Perry Smith, the criminal with whom Capote developed an odd relationship. Philip Seymour Hoffman is already signed on to play Capote. The movie is based on the book Capote: A Biography, by Gerald Clarke.

Morton and Cooper circling Capote

Samantha Morton and Chris Cooper are currently in negotiations to star in a second Truman Capote biopic from United Artists. Their project is currently untitled and is in direct competition with Warner Independent Pictures’ Every Word Is True. Both films will center around the period in Capote’s life when he wrote In Cold Blood. United Artists’ project will star Philip Seymour Hoffman as Capote and is based on the book Capote: A Biography by Gerald Clarke.
