Weinsteins get Lucky Number

The WeinsteinCo has acquired domestic and some overseas distribution rights for Lucky Number Slevin, a gangster film that stars Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. The movie is directed by Paul McGuigan from a screenplay by Jason Smilovic. The movie is set amongst gangsters in New York City, and center on a case of mistaken identity that leaves Hartnett's character right in the midst of a murder plot.

Willis and Freeman are Lucky

Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman are in talks to join Paul McGuigan's Lucky Slevin. They would join a cast that already includes Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu and Ben Kingsley. Jason Smilovic's screenplay centers around a young man who is staying at the apartment of a friend. When he is confused for that friend, he is forced by a gangland boss to assassinate an archenemy's son.

Kingsley draws a Lucky Number

Ben Kingsley has signed on for the Paul McGuigan-directed film Lucky Number Sleven, which already had Josh Hartnett and Lucy Liu onboard in primary roles. Based on a screenplay from Jason Smilovic, the film centers around Hartnett's character, who is caught in a case of mistaken identity involving a murder conspiracy. Kingsley will play Schlomo, aka The Rabbi, the leader of the biggest crime syndicate in New York City.

Liu is Lucky Number Sleven

Lucy Liu is in talks to join Josh Hartnett in the noir gangster film Lucky Number Sleven. Paul McGuigan, who worked with Hartnett on Wicker Park, will direct from a screenplay by Jason Smilovic. Liu would play a sexy coroner named Lynda, who falls in love with Sleven (Hartnett) when she helps to stage his death. The movie is centered around a conflict between black and Jewish gangsters.

Hartnett and McGuigan together again

Josh Hartnett and Paul McGuigan, who previously worked together on the upcoming thriller Wicker Park, will join forces again for Lucky Number Sleven, a noir gangster film based on a screenplay by Jason Smilovic. Shooting is scheduled to begin in November. The film is set in a time when African-American and Jewish gangsters are at odds. Hartnett will play a man who must kill the son of a rival crime boss. Much of the same crew that worked on Wicker Park will return for the production of this film.
