Allers goes for Open Season

Roger Allers, who previously co-helmed The Lion King, has signed on to join the directing team of Sony Pictures Animation's Open Season. Steve Bencich and Ron J. Friedman have been hired as writers. The CGI-animated comedy will feature the voices of Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence and tells the story of a deer and a bear who find themselves trapped in the forest during hunting season. They attempt to rally other animals of the woods behind them to turn the tables on the hunters. Along with Allers, other directors on the project include Jill Culton and Anthony Stacchi. It's based on the humor of cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers).
