Voice cast ready to Surf
A number of cast members have signed up for Sony Pictures Animation's CGI film Surf's Up, a movie that will be released in the summer of 2007. The film is done mockumentary style, and goes behind the scenes of competitive penguin surfing. The primary character is up-and-comer Cody Maverick (Shia LaBeouf), who is preparing for his first professional competition. Jeff Bridges will play "the Geek", a washed-up, grumpy, overweight King Penguin who agrees to be Cody's mentor. Zooey Deschanel will portray Lani, the penguin lifeguard and Pen Gu Island's South Beach. Other voice cast members will include James Woods, Jane Krakowski, Jon Heder, Mario Cantone, Brian Benben and Michael McKean. The movie is being directed by Ash Brannon and Chris Buck.

Scribes hired for Surf's Up
Lisa Addario and Joey Syracuse have signed on to write the screenplay for Sony Pictures Animation's Surf's Up. It's a film done in the style of a documentary that sets forth the theory that surfing was invented by penguins. The primary character, Cody, is a small Rockhopper penguin who hopes to find lots of fame and fortune at the Penguin World Surfing Championship. The film is being directed by Ash Brannon and Chris Buck.

Surf's Up for Sony
Sony Pictures Animation has added another film to its slate of upcoming feature releases. Surf's Up is set to be directed by Ash Brannon and Chris Buck, and is a mockumentary that centers around the stunning revelation that penguins were the real inventors of surfing. The "documentary crew" will take viewers behind the scenes of the Penguin World Surfing Championship, one of the most competitive and dangerous surfing contests in existence.
Brannon and Buck are well established in the field of animation. Brannon co-developed and co-directed Toy Story 2 for Disney/Pixar and has also been an animator and story artist at Warner Bros. Animation. Buck directed Disney's Tarzan and also did some supervising animation work on Pocahontas.
