Urban, The Rock are Doomed
Karl Urban (The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, The Bourne Supremacy) is set to star as John Grimm in the upcoming theatrical adaptation of the Doom video game. The story will be set at a Mars space station where an aerospace conglomeration is performing secret experiments that go terribly awry. Something releases a demonic force that has every possibility of overtaking the facility - and creates a terrifying batch of demon-aliens along the way. While Grimm is fighting these creatures, he must cross paths with the organization responsible for the deaths of his parents.
Also currently in negotiations for a role is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The screenplay, which was written by Dave Callaham, is based on the id Software/Activision game Doom 3. Universal Pictures recently hired Andrzej Bartkowiak (Cradle 2 the Grave) to direct. Production is set to start in October, as the studio is hoping to release the film in August 2005.
