Rock and Stamp Are Smart

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Terence Stamp have joined the cast of Get Smart, also starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. Peter Segal is directing the comedy, which is based on the 1965 Mel Brooks and Buck Henry sitcom about secret agent Maxwell Smart (Carell). The Rock will play Agent 23, a newly created character and Stamp will be an evil leader.

Hathaway Chooses Smart Role

Anne Hathaway is almost set to star along with Steve Carell in Warner Bros.' Get Smart, a feature film adaptation of the 1960s sitcom. The actress will play the role originally held by Barbara Feldon, while Carell will play the role of Maxwell Smart (originally played by Don Adams). Peter Segal is directing the movie, which will begin shooting in March.

Director ready for Get Smart

Peter Segal, who previously directed such comedies as 50 First Dates, Anger Management and The Longest Yard, has come aboard to direct the adaptation of the television show Get Smart for Warner Bros. Tom Astle and Matt Ember will adapt the screenplay. Steve Carell will star as Maxwell Smart, the bumbling secret agent originally portrayed by Don Adams.

Carell Gets Smart

Steve Carell is in negotiations to play the bumbling agent Maxwell Smart in a big-screen adaptation of the 1960s television series Get Smart. The role, which was originally played by Don Adams in both the TV show and a subsequent theatrical spin-off, puts Smart in the position of battling the evil forces of KAOS. Smart, known as Agent 86 works with a super-hot female agent called 99 (played in the TV series by Barbara Feldon). The series was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. Carell got his break as a field reporter on Comedy Central's The Daily Show and has since made memorable appearances in films such as Anchorman and Bruce Almighty. He'll also star in the Americanized version of the popular BBC series The Office for NBC. The screenplay for the film will be handled by Steve K
