Walker raises a Flag

Paul Walker has joined director Clint Eastwood's World War II epic Flags of Our Fathers. Based on the James Bradley book Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima, the screenplay was adapted by Paul Haggis (Million Dollar Baby). The Battle of Iwo Jima occurred in the winter of 1945 and was a major turning point in the war. In a month's time, 26,000 Americans and 22,000 Japanese died. The battle may be most remembered for the photograph of U.S. servicemen raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi, the high point of the island. Walker will play Hank Hansen, a soldier and one of the flag-raisers.

Eastwood raises Flags

Clint Eastwood will direct Flags of Our Fathers, a DreamWorks/Warner Bros. co-production based on the book Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima, by James Bradley with Ron Powers. Paul Haggis adapted the screenplay, which will make this film the second time Eastwood has collaborated with the writer (the first was for the Academy Award winning Million Dollar Baby). Ryan Phillippe, Jesse Bradford and Adam Beach will star in the film. The story is told from Bradley's point of view. His father was one of the men who raised the famous flag at Iwo Jima, but it was only after his death that his son learned of the real extent of his heroism.

Eastwood and Spielberg join forces for Iwo Jima film

Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg, who previously teamed together on The Bridges of Madison County, will again work together to bring an adaptation of the book Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima to the big screen. The book, written by James Bradley and Ron Powers, centers around the six soldiers who are the centerpiece of the famous image. One of those six men was Bradley's father, Navy corpsman John Bradley. The author was inspired to learn more about the story behind the famous photo upon his father's death in 1994. The script for the film, which will be a DreamWorks project, is being written by Paul Haggis, who is also co-writing Rope Burns aka Million Dollar Baby with Eastwood.
