Meyjes to helm Martian Child

With The Notebook’s Nick Cassavete’s dropping out of his directing job on The Martian Child due to creative differences, Menno Meyjes is now set to rewrite and direct the John Cusack film. He previously worked with Cusack on Max, a film about a young Adolf Hitler and his art teacher. Meyjes wrote and directed that project as well. The story centers around a science fiction writer (Cusack) who wants to be a dad. To that end, he adopts a seven-year-old boy who might actually be an alien. The film is based on a short story by David Gerrold, and the original screenplay was written by Jonathan Tolins and Seth Bass. New Line Cinema currently has the film scheduled for a late fall shoot. Meyjes may be best known for his Academy Award nominated screenplay for The Color Purple, but he also wrote scripts for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ricochet and The Siege as well.
