Advance ticket sales are through the roof
Advance ticket sales for Watchmen are outpacing 300 - both by Zack Snyder - by four to one. The caveat, however, is that 300 sold 80% of its advance tickets on the Wednesday and Thursday before its release.

Dispute between WB, Fox finally over!
Warner Bros. and Fox resolved their dispute over Watchmen, which is expected to be released on March 6th by the WB. Exact terms of the agreement were not disclosed, though the deal calls for Fox to receive a cash payment as well as a percentage of the film's box office take.

Watchmen lawsuit may soon be over
Warner Bros. and Fox are "close" to a settlement deal in regards to the Watchmen lawsuit. A judge ruled that Fox owns distribution rights to the project, set to be released by WB on March 6th. The two sides met privately in L.A. federal court to discuss details.

WB tells judge to pick up the pace
Warner Bros. asked a federal judge to speed up his decision regarding the studio's request to block Fox's release of Watchmen on March 6th. Both studios agreed to forego a jury trial in favor of a ruling on January 20th by U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess.

Judge's ruling could force WB to settle with Fox
The judge presiding over the Warner Bros./Fox case declared that the latter studio indeed has a copyright stake in the Zack Snyder movie adaptation of Watchmen. The preliminary ruling, which took place before the January 20, 2009 trial date, could force Warners to settle with Fox if it hopes to release its product in theaters by March 2009.

Court date shifts back two weeks
An LA federal judge pushed back Watchmen's trial from January 6th to January 20th in relation to whether Fox or Warner Bros. owns the rights to the project. WB has not backed off a release date of March 6th.

Fox, WB get their day in court
The federal judge residing over the Fox/Warner Bros. Watchmen rights dispute set a January 6th trial date for the case. Fox was told that it should cease any attempt from getting the WB to not release the film because the issues are too complex. At this time, the WB wants the Zack Snyder adaptation in theaters on March 6th.

Snyder Working on Watchmen
With the mammoth opening weekend success of 300 behind him, director Zack Snyder is now gearing up to develop Watchmen for Warner Bros. Alan Moore wrote the comic book miniseries in 1986 and it is widely regarded as a classic of both the comic book form and literature in general. Time Magazine even placed it on its list of the top novels since 1923. However, numerous writers and directors have attempted to launch the project over the years with little success. Snyder hopes to begin shooting the film sometime this summer.

Warner Bros. watches the Watchmen
Warner Bros. has acquired rights to the seminal Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons graphic novel Watchmen, picking it up in turnaround from Paramount Pictures. Paul Greengrass and David Hayter, who were attached to the production as director and screenwriter respectively, are no longer onboard, and an entirely new screenplay will be commissioned. Watchmen is a project that has been in the works for years, with Terry Gilliam working on the story as early as 1989 before the property saw numerous studio shuffles and various director/screenwriter combinations.

Paramount over Watchmen
Paramount Pictures pulled the plug on development of the graphic novel adaptation of Watchmen over the weekend, putting the project into turnaround. With a potential $100 million budget in the offing, the studio simply felt that it wasn't going to work.

Greengrass goes for Watchmen
With Darren Aronofsky no longer on the project, helmer Paul Greengrass is in talks with Paramount Pictures to direct the vigilante action-adventure Watchmen. Based on the comic book series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the film centers around a group of vigilante heroes who have been prohibited from practicing their craft. When one of them is murdered, events slowly begin to shape that cause one of them - a man named Rorschach - begins to suspect that someone is systematically eliminating former wearers of the cape.

Paramount lands Watchmen
Watchmen, an adaptation of the seminal Alan Moore/David Gibbons graphic novel, is now being produced by Paramount Pictures. Darren Aronofsky is developing and directing the project, which is being scripted by David Hayter. The comic series was initially released in 1986 and is referred to as the War and Peace of graphic novels.
