Polanski Gets Acting Bug in Rush Hour
Roman Polanski will appear in New Line's Rush Hour 3, the director's first acting role since his 1974 classic Chinatown. He will appear in several scenes as a French police officer who harasses Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan's characters while the stars fight a Chinese gang. Brett Ratner is again returning to direct the hit series. Polanski, who won an Oscar for 2002's The Pianist, fled the U.S. to Europe in 1978 after pleading guilty to having sex with a minor.

Rush Hour 3 is on again
Rush Hour 3 is back in the works, with New Line Cinema putting it on the fast track for a summer start and a subsequent Summer 2007 release. Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, director Brett Ratner and writer Jeff Nathanson have all officially signed on to return for the third film in the franchise. The budget for the film will be in the $120 million range, with the stars, director and writer all taking a substantial cut.

Rush Hour 3 stalls
Despite reports that he was on the verge of signing a $20 million contract, Chris Tucker failed to come to a deal to reprise his Rush Hour role for a third film. As a result, Rush Hour 3 has been put on the backburner, with little indication as to when or if production might move forward.

Rush Hour 3 finally moving forward
With Chris Tucker finally set to sign a contract today, all the pieces are in place for Rush Hour 3 to head into production. Tucker had been the lone holdout in the attempt to reconnect him with Jackie Chan, director Brett Ratner and screenwriter Jeff Nathanson in the buddy cop/fish-out-of-water story. Currently, an August start date is being eyed.
