This New Line Pictures release seems to be set to follow in the holiday film footsteps of films such as the Santa Clause. This time around, Will Ferrell plays a human named Buddy who was raised as one of Santa’s elves. Once it becomes obvious that his size is going to be a problem, it is decided to send him back to his birth parents. Of course, since his birth father is a gruff New Yorker, Buddy is due for quite the culture shock upon being dropped off New York.

One can probably expect Will Ferrell to use his physical comedy skills to inadvertently destroy his elf-sized surroundings in the early part of the film. The fish-out-of-water aspect should come into play for the later part of the film, as the good natured Buddy comes face-to-face with the far less caring.

This movie will probably do quite well as family fare. The plot line reads close to a reverse of the Santa Clause plot line and both that original film as well its sequel were quite successful at the box office. (Jason Dean/BOP)

James Caan plays Buddy's biological father, while Bob Newhart plays his adoptive elf father (yipes, talk about a dude who's going to need therapy). Zooey Deschanel, who played the rebellious older sister in Almost Famous, will play Buddy's love interest and coworker at a New York City department store. Ed Asner (?!!) plays the big guy in the red suit. (Jennifer Turnock/BOP)
