With a title that reminds one of C.C. Baxter, the wrong-time, wrong-place character portrayed by Jack Lemmon in Billy Wilder's The Apartment, The Baxter centers on a similar character during a chaotic two-week period that precedes a wedding.

Elliot Sherman (Michael Showalter) is the classic example of the guy who never, ever gets the girl. An neurotic hypochondriac who has been dumped so many times that he believes he'll never find the girl of his dreams, Elliot is delighted when he finally seems to get past this problem as he becomes engaged to the beautiful, classy Caroline (Elizabeth Banks). Naturally, that state of bliss can't last. Bradley (Justin Theroux), Caroline's great lost love reappears, fresh from mind-blowing adventures in all sorts of worldly places. Surely Caroline will leave him for this handsome, exciting guy!

For solace, Elliot turns to his eccentric new office temp Cecil (Michelle Williams). Not only does she share Elliot's love for reading the dictionary, she seems to genuinely like him as she offers him up counseling on his romantic troubles. And so it is that even though Bradley has suddenly moved into Caroline's apartment, Elliot is now drawn to two different women, with Cecil being attractive because of an idiosyncratic nature that seems simpatico with his own compulsions.

How will Elliot, so frequently the "wrong guy", be able to make a decision as to which is the "right girl"? (Kim Hollis/BOP)
