On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
46/47 Amanda Jones My expectations couldn't have been any lower, but I was still horrified.
68/68 Michael Bentley One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Remarkably unfunny in every way.
154/159 David Mumpower Probably would have ranked even lower if I had suffered through the whole thing. The only 2006 release I couldn't finish.

Remember those nerdly kids who never got picked for teams in high school? You know, the ones like Bill Haverchuck from Freaks and Geeks who wait and wait to be selected, all the while saying, "Pick me, I'm good!" The Benchwarmers is for anyone who hopes to avenge that inner child.

Based on an original idea by Adam Sandler, the movie centers on three men (Rob Schneider, David Spade and Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder) who had athletically challenged childhoods, but try to make up for that lost past by forming a three-man baseball team. The catch is that rather than compete against men their own age, they battle nine-player youth teams. As they continue through the ranks, they develop a following of left-out kids who idolize them as they work toward a high-stakes game with a team comprised of the best kids in the state.

Along with the three leads, other performers in the film will include Craig Kilborn, who will play the coach of a rival team, and Jon Lovitz, who portrays the guys' wealthy benefactor. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
