Michael Connelly is bored. Tired by humanity in generally, he's sick of playing by societal rules and is unaffected by false smiles and chit chat. Though he ought to be right at the prime of his life at the age of 24, he's living at the Carrigmore Home for the Disabled and it's not exactly the ideal place to be.

All of that changes when Rory O'Shea moves in next door. Even though Michael has cerebral palsy and his speech is hard to understand, Rory comprehends every single word. With Rory by his side, Michael is totally ready to go out and play in the real world.

Meanwhile, Rory makes his own rules and doesn't care about the consequences of his sharp tongue. Having Duchenne muscular dystrophy means that his life expectancy is half that of a healthy individual. It also means that his lives his life to the very fullest. He and his new friend Michael are a dangerous pair, with Rory doing the talking while Michael handles the thinking.

A tough girl named Siobhan enters their inner circle, helping them to find new experiences and feelings. She's a no-nonsense kind of girl, but the kind, beautiful heart that lies beneath her hard shell helps take the two young men to freedom. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
