Position Staff In Brief
37/190 Max Braden One of the things that failed this movie was that the music didn't drive the tempo fast enough. Jackson was surprisingly good, and this puts Cooper one step closer to the A-List.
59/123 David Mumpower Don't let the critics who never gave it a chance ruin this for you. There are a few great action sequences, over the top though they may be.

Unlike other reboots that took beloved television shows and turned them into ironic comedies (The Dukes of Hazard, Starsky and Hutch), The A-Team, if done right, can become what The Fugitive was and what Miami Vice wanted to be: appealing to today’s audiences and nostalgic to yesterday’s fans. The problem with Miami Vice was that it shed its relevance by moving the time period up to present day. Sure, Crocket and Tubbs were memorable characters, but really only on the surface. They were defined by the excess of the 1980s. The Fugitive translated well because A) it was an expertly made thriller with two actors (Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones) at or near the top of their games and B) the television show had a timeless premise. Luckily, as it pertains to The A-Team, filmgoers never tired of big action with a dose of the anti-hero.

As if you needed to be reminded, the A-Team’s concept is as follows: during the Vietnam War (will be updated to either the Gulf War or one of the current conflicts), the A-Team carries out a controversial order from their commanding officer in hopes of ending the war. Upon succeeding in their mission, they find their commander murdered by the Viet Cong and his headquarters burned to the ground. Since no proof existed that the A-Team were acting under orders, they are sent to prison by a military court. However, before actually standing trial, the four members of the A-Team escape and embark on missions using their unorthodox methods. Known for its over-the-top action and joyful militarism, The A-Team was a cultural phenomenon in the '80s during its five-year run (1982-1987). A movie has been in the works since the '90s and looks to finally capitalize on the reemergence of all fanboy things from the '80s (Transformers, GI Joe). (Joel West/BOP)
