While it is true that Daredevil pretty much sucked big time, the film featured one shining light and that was Jennifer Garner, who easily stole the film from Ben Affleck in her portrayal of Elektra Natchios. This fact is not necessarily reflective of the character herself but more a reflection of Garner's on-screen presence and believability as an action star. The Alias star, who honed her butt-kicking moves on the television show, was very natural and had a fantastic self-command that proved to be a highlight in the rather crappy film. Garner’s reward? Her own spin-off in the form of a big screen feature with Elektra as the main character.

Those who’ve seen Daredevil know that Elektra is Matt Murdock’s love interest (Matt Murdock being Dardevil’s alter-ego). At the same time that she’s involved with Murdock, she’s also out to kill Daredevil. For Elektra’s film, however, Daredevil is mercifully somewhere else entirely. Set to be directed by Rob Bowman, director of Reign of Fire and The X-Files, the film is set to begin filming in Vancouver in early May. Targeting a 2005 release, Elektra should make an impact in theatres due to Daredevil’s moderate success. This film could also herald the arrival of Garner as a serious, major female action star, something that is seriously lacking in mainstream films today. Garner will put Halle Berry to shame. According to USA Today, Jennifer Garner is saying that her villainous foil in the upcoming Elektra film will be Typhoid Mary, a woman who is normal during the daytime, but at night she loses her mind, causing those with whom she comes into contact to contract typhoid itself. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
