The mystery project on the fall schedule is Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour. While the movie has a great as well as descriptive title, gleaning further information about it right now is all but impossible. This is quite odd given that the project is in the can and the run time is known. I cannot ever recall a movie where I knew its run-time before I knew its major plot details.
Even an attempt to form conclusions based on the talent involved is impossible. Lisa Comrie helms the project, her first directorial effort...or any industry job according to IMDb. Writer John Comrie – Her brother? Husband? Father? Cousin? – has worked on two previous projects, Jack Pepper and Mystery at Sam’s. If you have seen either project, feel free to drop BOP a note telling us what you thought of them. Presumably, if you do write, your last name will be Comrie. We are particularly confident about this since two of the people in the credits are named Dan and Brian Comrie. This seems to be a family affair in every definition of the words. We are left to evaluate the film’s potential based on the star. At least we would if the woman playing Sarah Landon, Rissa Walters, were not...wait for it…acting in a movie for the first time. Quirky though it may be, she has three fewer movie credits than the child playing Young Sarah.
Perhaps fitting for a film entitled Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour, this movie is the mystery project of 2007 at the moment. It’s in the can, we know nothing about it, and we have an email in to Freestyle Releasing asking for a bit of clarification about exactly what this is. In the interim, loathe as we are to do this, BOP has no choice but to simply parrot the released plot description for the project. "A 17-year-old girl has mysterious encounters with paranormal activity in the small town of Pine Valley." How enlightening. (David Mumpower/BOP)
