Nobody ever expects Michael Myers. Except maybe Eliza Dushku.

Position Staff In Brief
40/50 Michael Bentley A few notable scenes, but otherwise an unnecessary, disappointing, and flat remake of a horror classic.

Digg Button
Rob Zombie takes over the Halloween franchise with an entirely new take on the legend of Michael Myers. This fresh entry into the series is designed to appeal both to long-time fans of the series as well as to draw newbie horror fans in.

As in the previous films, Michael Myers is the bemasked terror who has escaped from a mental institution and goes on to slaughter the denizens of his sleepy little home town. Where in the original John Carpenter film Jamie Lee Curtis played Laurie Strode and Donald Pleasence portrayed the determined Doctor Loomis, Zombie's version will have Scout Taylor-Compton and Malcolm McDowell in those roles. The movie will also feature a who's who of horror movie stars, including Pat Skipper (Hellraiser: Bloodline), Dee Wallace Stone (The Frighteners, Critters, Cujo, The Howling), Ken Foree (George Romero's Dawn of the Dead), Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 and 5), Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, The Thing, Swamp Thing, Creepshow), Clint Howard (The Wraith, Carnosaur, Leprechaun 2, House of the Dead), Courtney Gains (Malachai from Children of the Corn), Brad Dourif (Child's Play's Chucky), Udo Kier (Riget), and several alums from Zombie projects like The Devil's Rejects, including Tyler Mane, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Lew Templer, Danny Trejo).

The casting decisions made for Halloween look to be either pure genius or utter distraction. Either way, Zombie has developed a solid fan base with House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, which should translate to decent success for Dimension in this case. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
