Michael Moore's acclaimed documentary Roger and Me debuts in New York.
1990:
NC-17 replaces X in the Motion Picture Associtation of America rating system as designation of adult material. The move was undertaken to try and address the problem caused by the co-opting by the porn industry of the X rating, which initally was intended to indicate adult themes.
