The original James Bond, Sean Connery, is born in Edinburgh, Scotland. After shaking his Bond persona, Connery goes on to win the Oscar for his supporting turn in The Untouchables.

1939:

After premiering ten days earlier, eventual classic The Wizard of Oz opens nationwide in the US.
