Upon the resignation of Robert Montgomery, Ronald Reagan is chosen by SAG Board of Directors to be acting president until the next election in November.

Director Roman Polanski allegedly rapes a 13-year-old girl at Jack Nicholson's house. Polanski would later plead guilty to the charge and subsequently flee the country.
