La Dolce Vita premieres in Italy. It is the first on-screen partnership between director Frederico Fellini and actor Marcello Mastroianni. Fellini receives directing and writing Oscar nominations for the film.

2003:

B-movie actress Lana Clarkson (Barbarian Queen, Amazon Women on the Moon) is shot dead. Record producer Phil Spector was eventually charged with her murder.
