Actress Carole Lombard (My Man Godfrey, Nothing Sacred, To Be or Not to Be) is born Jane Alice Peters in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Lombard married actors William Powell and Clark Gable before being killed in a plane crash on a trip to sell war bonds.
1927:
Warner Bros. debuts The Jazz Singer, starring Al Jolson. The film ushered in the era of sound in the movies.
