2004 BOP Reader Awards Results:
Best Actor
He may get no love from the Academy, but BOP readers sure loved Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, voting him best actor by roughly a 20% margin over runner up Jamie Foxx. Readers highlighted Foxx's performance in Ray, and also voted him into tenth place for his supporting work in Collateral. Well behind Foxx were Paul Giamatti and Leonardo DiCaprio, and on the next rung down from there were Clint Eastwood and Johnny Depp.
Lead actors dominated the voting, with the readers' top supporting turn - Clive Owen in Closer - finishing seventh overall. Owen finished tied for third in Calvins voting. Readers apparently could not forgive the Supporting Actor Calvin Award winner Thomas Haden Church for Wings after all these years, as his supporting work in Sideways placed outside the readers' top 15.
Carrey placed third in Calvins voting, as we preferred Paul Giamatti a bit more. We also liked Collateral Jamie Foxx better than Ray Jamie Foxx, but no one ever accused us of just going along with the crowd.
